This deformity causes pain and hastens arthritis. Treatments range from a commitment to more utilitarian shoe styles to a variety of available surgical procedures.
From shoe inserts, bracing, and physical therapy to extensive reconstructive surgery, we'll work with you on finding a treatment program right for your lifestyle, goals, and restrictions.
This is most commonly experienced with pain on the bottom of your heel, especially in the morning or when standing up from a long period of rest. Plantar fasciitis is often treated successfully with physical therapy regimens, although medications, injections, and surgery are occasionally used to provide relief.
Thickened nails can be difficult to trim, let us do it for you. We also treat and offload calluses and corns.
For our diabetic patients, we offer foot exams, routine care, evaluations for shoes, as well as wound care when needed.
This happens when one of the edges of a toenail starts to push its way into your skin. This can be mildly to severely uncomfortable and often become infected.
Treatment involves trimming away a portion of the toenail (don't worry, it will grow back). If this happens repeatedly, however, we recommend a procedure that permanently removes a small portion of toenail. This should not change the look of your toe nail.
A sprained ankle can slow you down immediately. The pain is usually on the outside of your ankle, but sometimes can be felt on the outside your foot as well.
Each sprain makes you more likely to re-injure that ankle. Depending on multiple factors, treatment ranges from bracing to physical therapy, and for longstanding, recurrent, or severe injuries, surgery is often beneficial.
Warts are caused by human papillomavirus (HPV). Like any virus, warts are spread through contact. The virus enters the body through tiny cuts or cracks in the skin. It can take as long as six months to develop a wart after the skin has come into contact with the virus, making it difficult to identify the source of the infection.
“Plantar” means “Of the sole” in Latin. Unlike other types of warts, plantar warts are typically quite painful as the pressure from walking and standing forces them to grow into your skin. Like all warts, Plantar warts are caused by the human papillomavirus (HPV) virus, specifically types 1, 2, 4, 60, and 63. Underneath the skin, the wart can have finger-like roots that reach down and grow, making them very difficult to treat effectively from the surface.
Traditional plantar wart treatments aim to destroy (burn, freeze and remove) the skin cells that are infected with the HPV virus. These treatments are often unsuccessful because it is impossible to get rid of every single viral skin cell, thus the wart returns. In addition, these traditional methods are often painful and require down time between frequent treatments. In complex cases, these options may not even be effective. At Sewickley Foot and Ankle we use Swift®, a state-of-the-art technology to deliver precise, highly controlled microwave energy into the problem area of the skin. This works to stimulate the patient’s body into a healing response and treat plantar warts at their source. This virtually painless procedure is a quick, clean, and non-invasive option with little or no recovery time.
